Flower Essences
“The system of healing, which has been Divinely revealed unto us, shows that it is our fears, our cares, our anxieties and such like that opens the path to the invasion of illness... the Herbs given unto us by the Grace of the Creator of all... take away our fears and worries, and leave us happier and better in ourselves.”
— Dr. Edward Bach
Bach Flower Essences
How did Bach Flower Remedies originate?
Edward Bach began as a medical student at Cambridge, where he quickly became more interested in the patients themselves than their diseases. He would sit with patients for hours talking. This is when he realized that treating the physical symptoms was not enough. He then became a bacteriologist. This is where he really began studying his friends, his patients, and everyone he met, along with their behaviors and experiences in everyday life at work and play.
After several years, he met Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. It was during this time he discovered the 7 Bach nosodes (a type of homeopathic remedy made from a disease product), which were created to cleanse and purify the intestinal tract. They were so successful it confirmed his opinion that physical disease was not of physical origin, but a consolidation of a mental attitude.
He then gave up his practice in London, and went to live in the country, where he could use himself as the patient and get into negative states of mind where he was led to finding his own peace and serenity through various flowers. He found 38 flowers to use for the 38 negative states of mind from which all of mankind can suffer. He then divided them into 7 categories, representing fundamental conflicts which prevent us from being true to ourselves:
• Fear
• Uncertainty
• Loneliness
• Insufficient interest in present circumstances
• Over-sensitivity to ideas and influences
• Despondency or despair
• Over-care for the welfare of others
Dr. Bach successfully treated hundreds of patients with his flower remedies from 1930-1934 at no cost. Then in 1934, he moved to Mount Vernon where he continued to grow and make flower essences on his property until his death. The Dr. Edward Bach Centre is still in operation today.
How do Bach Flower Remedies work?
The Bach Flower Remedies are a simple system to help us bring imbalances into harmony. This way we can learn by peeling away the layers, we can get closer to our true selves, living a more fulfilling life.
We are all filled with emotions all the time, every day – Impatience, loneliness, despair, panic, fatigue, frustration, anger, inferiority, self-doubt, guilt, grief, agitation, hopelessness, terror, regret, anxiety, worry, sorrow, uncertainty, etc….
The best quote to answer this question: “The system of healing, which has been Divinely revealed unto us, shows that it is our fears, our cares, our anxieties and such like that opens the path to the invasion of illness... the Herbs given unto us by the Grace of the Creator of all... take away our fears and worries, and leave us happier and better in ourselves.” — Dr. Edward Bach
Remedies for Fear:
-
Mimulus Flower Essence
Mimulus is traditionally used in flower essence therapy for individuals experiencing known, specific fears—like fear of public speaking, social anxiety, illness, or even everyday overstimulation.
From a mind-body perspective, these fears activate the sympathetic nervous system, keeping the body in a prolonged stress state (fight-or-flight). Mimulus helps gently shift the system toward parasympathetic regulation—rest, calm, and emotional safety.
It works subtly through the body’s energetic and emotional layers, helping highly sensitive people build emotional resilience without suppressing their sensitivity.
This flower essence helps you step into life with more trust and strength, soothing the nervous system and easing emotional tension. It’s like a soft whisper reminding you: “You are safe. You are braver than you know.”
Science is beginning to catch up with what flower essence practitioners have long observed:
Emotions and energetic imprints affect biology—and gentle vibrational remedies can support balance.
Mimulus may not eliminate fear—but it strengthens your response to it. -
Red Chestnut Flower Essence — Releasing Fear for Others
Red Chestnut is a powerful support for those who feel excessive worry for the safety and well-being of loved ones—especially parents, caregivers, and empaths.
Chronic concern for others can trigger a constant state of sympathetic nervous system activation—releasing stress hormones, increasing heart rate, and disrupting sleep. Over time, this pattern can lead to burnout, anxiety, and emotional fatigue.
Red Chestnut helps re-pattern this over-caring energy, supporting a healthier energetic boundary between yourself and those you love. Rather than disconnecting you from empathy, it restores your inner calm so your care comes from trust, not fear.
In energetic terms, Red Chestnut helps quiet the projection of fear-based vibrations and allows space for love, presence, and grounded connection.
A vital remedy for sensitive people who feel deeply and want to support others—without draining themselves. -
Aspen Flower Essence: Calming the Unknown
Aspen is known in flower essence therapy for easing vague fears, anxiety, and a sense of dread without a known cause.
From a more scientific lens, Aspen may support the nervous system by helping regulate emotional responses tied to the amygdala—the brain’s fear center.
While not pharmacological, flower essences work on an energetic level, gently influencing emotional patterns and restoring a sense of inner safety and peace.
Ideal for sensitive souls, those with nighttime fear or anxious dreams, those who feel uneasy for “no reason” -
