DIY Healing: Making Remedies from Your Own Kitchen
There’s something deeply empowering about making your own healing remedies at home. In a world full of quick fixes and pharmaceuticals, returning to kitchen medicine invites us to slow down, trust our intuition, and connect with the wisdom of nature.
Herbal home remedies can be simple, accessible, and surprisingly potent. You don’t need a fancy apothecary—just a few common ingredients, some patience, and a desire to care for your body in a more conscious way.
One of my absolute favorites? Fire Cider.
This spicy, tangy tonic is a time-honored folk remedy that supports the immune system, fights off colds, warms the body, and wakes up your digestion. It’s fiery, flavorful, and easy to make.

How to Make Fire Cider:
You’ll need:
• 1/2 cup grated fresh horseradish root
• 1/2 cup chopped onion
• 1/4 cup chopped garlic
• 1/4 cup grated fresh ginger
• 1-2 jalapeños or other hot peppers, chopped
• Zest and juice of 1 lemon
• A few sprigs of rosemary or thyme (optional)
• Apple cider vinegar (enough to cover everything)
• Raw honey to taste (added after infusion)
Instructions:
1. Add all the chopped and grated ingredients to a quart-sized glass jar.
2. Fill the jar with apple cider vinegar, making sure all the ingredients are submerged.
3. Cover the jar with a lid (plastic or a non-metal top is best if you’re using acidic vinegar).
4. Store in a cool, dark place for 3–4 weeks. Shake daily with intention!
5. After steeping, strain out the solids and stir in honey to taste.
6. Store in the fridge and take a spoonful daily or as needed when you feel something coming on.
